Drawn cup needle roller bearings typically consist of three types of components. The first is a “cup”, which is formed from flat sheet stock via metal stamping and forming operations into a housing which functions as an outer race. In addition to the cup, there is a cage or separator which is also formed from a metal sheet. Rollers are typically produced from bearing grade chrome steel.
Drawn cup needle roller bearings are similar to standard roller bearings except for their much smaller diameter-to-length ratio. They are a very popular bearing style due to their small cross-section (distance between ID and OD). In most cases, a hardened shaft or pin acts as the inner race. Also, rollers are kept parallel to the axis of the shaft by controlling the clearance between the rollers.
